The Square

I have discovered the most amazing little gadget in the world! (or at least it is to me at the moment) It is the Square. No, I’m not being facetious. It is a small credit card reader that plugs into the headphone jack on your iPhone or Droid (other smart phones too). It will read cards and you can charge them on the spot! If you are taking the order over the phone or something, you can also key in the card number. Digital signing too. The card is then charged and the money deposited into the account of your choosing! AMAZING!

I have been looking into a credit card processing system for my new business http://www.30daylady.com where I sell books and ebooks. I needed to process them at an affordable rate and many other card processing companies wanted a monthly fee and/or equipment rental fee, and/or setup fee, etc., but not Square! The only fees you get is when you actually process the card, and those are even lower than most of the “other guys” I checked out.

It is so easy to use. Download the app and sign up. I went online to add an avatar, email and my banking info and bam! Ready to go!

If you need to process credit cards for your business, you totally need to check out the Square. It will rock your world! :o )

DSWA Leadership Retreat

Filed under: Business,Direct Sales,DSWA,Motivation,social media,Twitter — Awnya Boam @ 8:35 am

I am currently in San Diego California at the DSWA (Direct Selling Women’s Alliance) Leadership Retreat. It has only been 5 hours in classes and I have learned so much! I truly believe that attending the DSWA Celebration or Leadership is the single best thing that you can do for you Direct Sales business.

We have over 647 years of experience here at the leadership retreat! In addition to all the classes the PEOPLE that are here are absolutely amazing! I have made new friends and connections that will last a lifetime. Everyone is SO positive and caring. They know that when THEY succeed, you succeed.

I have attended so many other meetings where the intentions of the attendees are less than pure. In comparison, the DSWA meetings are centered around education and caring for each other.

If you haven’t checked it out, visit DSWA.org or get tips from the retreat in real time on Twitter with the hashtag #dswalr. There are several of us tweeting some gems. :o )

Facebook tip – social media

Filed under: facebook, social media — Awnya Boam @ 4:43 pm

The term SOCIAL MEDIA totally applies here. Be social. Don’t use facebook strictly for business. Especially your personal page. IF you do, Facebook may choose to ban you. Create a fanpage for business and then you can be social on your personal page. Network with people you meet at events, contacts, potential business partners, etc. Take an interest in THEM. Make relevant comments and “like” things that are fun or cool to you.

It will only take a few minutes everyday, but it will add a human element to your business and you will definitely be more like-able online.

“We all meet for a reason and we all change the world when we wait for our time. How many disappointments do we now understand? Without them, we could not be where we are. It follows that disappointments we feel in the future are really just directions to a better place. We must be patient but never lazy!” -Claudia Dutro-Nelson

Direct Sales Roller Coaster

If you have ever been in Direct Sales, you will know exactly what I’m talking about. Sometimes business is booming. Customers seem to be falling from the sky. Parties or appointments come easily and you may even be adding people to your organization.

And then for no apparent reason…

Nothing. Everything seems to stop. You feel like you have failed. Leads don’t pan out. People won’t call you back. Sales drop…
Sound familiar?

If not, I am so glad to hear it! If so, welcome to the wonderful world of Direct Sales. It is completely natural for you to have highs and lows in your business. The important thing is what you choose to do about it. Do you sit on your couch moping and hoping? Do you get out and pound the pavement and look for new people to talk to? Do you sit home and wonder what you are doing wrong or do you read new books, listen to tele-classes or take trainings to improve yourself?

The truth is, no matter what happens, you are going to have times of plenty and times of …not so plenty. Sometimes it is because of the season, a move, a life change (like a baby, graduation, death, etc.), or even just the time of the month. The difference is, those who survive these down times are the ones who push through it and get to work.

So which will you do- push through the tough times or simply give up?

Listen with your heart

Filed under: DSWA — Awnya Boam @ 10:03 pm

Recently I have been learning a lot about “Heart centered Listening” from the DSWA.  I decided to try it out this past weekend.  I was amazed at the results.  I think that I truly heard some friends/family that I haven’t really listened to.

This whole experience has made me realize how often I start thinking about what I want to say next or get so wrapped up in myself that I don’t listen to the other person.  It has been interesting and really rewarding to listen to someone else for a change.

So, I challenge you.  Stop listening with your head.  Listen with your heart.  If you need a little help, the DSWA (Direct Selling Women’s Alliance) has some great resources available to you.  Try it today.
