I was recently at a class for business. I took away some wonderful information and had some positive thoughts (which I promise to share later) but something happened after the meeting which tainted the entire experience for me!

There was a man who approached me and I’m not sure if he was hitting on me or just networking. I will leave the details out, but suffice it to say that I’m really, really glad that we exchanged business cards! Why? So I can block him on Facebook and the other social networking sites I’m on!

Now at first I was a little surprised by my thinking, but then I realized that if I was uncomfortable with the situation and I’d barely met the guy…I really don’t want him knowing what I’m up to in my business or personal life.

On the other hand, business cards are an excellent way to keep in touch with people or to get to know them better later on. It is a quick and easy way to pass along your info to others as well.

For networking purposes, I recommend having your Social Networking information on the card (I actually stamp it on the back) and for customers, potential customers, or clients you can do a variety of things. Some offer coupons, others an uplifting quote and I’ve even seen some with a frequent shopper setup on the back.

To keep your cards organized, I HIGHLY recommend http://www.Evernote.com.
They are a wonderful (and free!) place online to keep your information. Post-its, business cards, important documents, etc. but THEN it makes them searchable as well. So if you are looking for a “Jan”, type it in and the system will pull up any card with JAN on it. This way you can access your Rolodex anytime and anywhere with an internet connection.
